The simple tube frame houses the iconic BMW boxer engine, with the cylinder heads poking out to either side, and the entire engine case thoughtfully shaped to look beautiful. Details like the 1800cc plaque and the BMW Roundel mounted up front give the engine a sense of occasion. You can get your R18 with additional machined finished on the cylinder heads or opt for extra chrome. The First Edition models get classy white pinstripes. Another unique feature of the R18 is the driveshaft system, which is open and given a nickel-plated finish for a wonderfully mechanical look. Getting a leg over the motorcycle is easy thanks to a low seat height of only 27.2 inches. Adding a touch of modernity is like a full LED headlight, an analog speedometer with a built-in multifunction display, plus a keyless ride system that lets you simply hop on and set off.
The engine is the visual center of attention, and when you’re riding, it steals the show again. Displacing a generous 1,802 cubic centimeters, the two-cylinder boxer engine produces a hearty 91 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 116 lb-ft of torque at just 3,000 rpm. The R18 also benefits from something its forebears did not, advanced electronics. The R18 gets three riding modes, Rock, Roll, and Rain, that adjust the throttle and brake response to suit relaxed riding, enthusiastic riding, or riding in inclement weather.
